The Lord and His purposes are perfect, and we must realize that we are not. We sometimes fill our heads with doubt during our busy lives, and it keeps us from living out the purposes that He has established for us. The Bible insures us that the Lord has created us and given us all a purpose. Once, you find out what on earth you are here for, now you can begin to walk out your divine purpose. The Scripture says, “The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble” (Proverbs 16:4 ESV).
The purpose of your life is far greater than your own individual contentment, your peace of mind, or even your happiness. It’s far better than your family, your business or career, or even your greatest adventure and incomprehensible ambitions. If you want to know why you were created and placed on this planet, you must begin with God. You were born by His purpose and for His purpose to bring glory, honor and praise unto Him. Keep this in mind, that God was thinking about you long before you ever thought about Him. His purpose for your life preexists your conception. He planned it before you happened, without any of your contribution or effort. There will be many times, you may try to choose your career, your spouse, your interests, and many other interesting parts of your life. Truthfully, the choice for choosing your purpose is not for you to make. The purpose of your life fits into a much grandeur scale of focus in this cosmic arena called purpose, in which God has designed for you until eternity.
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:7-8 ESV).
Once God has established His purpose for us in life, no one can do anything to change that. Sometimes we get so busy and wrapped up in our lives that we forget the purpose behind them. We are driven by demands in our lives and forget that God always has a greater purpose. His purposes not only encompass our lives, but all the lives around us. Whether it be at home, school, work, neighborhood, and community. We can always look to God's word for guidance. You are not an accident. Your birth was no mistake or mishap, and your life is no coincidence. Your parents may not have planned you, but God did. He was not at all surprised by your birth. In fact, he expected it. Long before you were conceived by your parents, you were conceived in the mind of God. He thought of you first. It is not fate, nor chance, nor luck, nor coincidence that you are breathing at this very moment. You are alive because God wanted to create you! The Bible says, “The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me.” God prescribed every single detail of your body. He deliberately chose your race, the color of your skin, your hair, and every other feature. He custom-made your body just the way he wanted it. He also determined the natural talents you would possess and the uniqueness of your personality. Because God made you for a reason, he also decided when you would be born and how long you would live. He planned the days of your life in advance, choosing the exact time of your birth and death. God decided how you would be born.
Regardless of the surroundings of your birth or who your parents are, God had a plan in creating you. It doesn’t matter whether your parents were good, bad, or indifferent. God knew that those two individuals possessed exactly the right genetic makeup to create the custom “you” he had in mind. They had the DNA God wanted to make you.
We are products of our past, but we don’t have to be prisoners of it. God’s purpose is not limited by your past. He turned a murderer named Moses into a leader and a coward named Gideon into a courageous hero, and he can do amazing things with the rest of your life, too. God specializes in giving people a fresh start. The Bible says,
Rick Warren the Purpose Driven Life says that there are five benefits of a purpose driven life:
I. Knowing Your Purpose Gives Meaning to Your Life.
We were made to have meaning. This is why people try dubious methods, like astrology or
psychics, to discover it. When life has meaning, you can bear almost anything; without it,
nothing is bearable.
II. Knowing Your Purpose Simplifies Your Life.
It defines what you do and what you don’t do.
Your purpose becomes the standard you use to evaluate which activities are essential
and which aren’t. Without a clear purpose you have no foundation on which your base
decisions, allocate your time, and use your resources. You will tend to make choices based on
circumstances, pressures, and your mood at that moment. People who don’t know their
purpose try to do too much and that causes stress, fatigue, and conflict.
III. Knowing Your Purpose Focuses Your Life:
It concentrates your effort and energy on what’s important. You become effective by being
selective. Many people are like gyroscopes, spinning around at a frantic pace but never going
anywhere. Without a clear purpose, you will keep changing directions, jobs, relationships,
churches, or other externals in which hoping each change will settle the confusion or fill the
emptiness in your heart.
IV. Knowing Your Purpose Motivates Your Life:
Purpose always produces passion. Nothing energizes like a clear purpose. On the other hand,
passion dissipates when you lack a purpose. Just getting out of bed becomes a major chore. It
is usually meaningless work, not overwork, that wears us down, saps our strength, and robs
our joy.
V. Knowing Your Purpose Prepares You For Eternity:
Many people spend their lives trying to create a lasting legacy on earth. They want to be remembered when they’re gone. Yet, what ultimately matters most will not be what others say
about your life but what God says. What people fail to realize is that all achievements are
eventually surpassed, records are broken, reputations fade, and tributes are forgotten.
“Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.”
(Philippians 3:10-11)
