Day 2: Introduction - Who Can Know It? - Part 2

The Characteristic or Nature of A Bad Heart:

Proud Heart:

“He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife, But he who trusts in the Lord will be prospered” Proverbs 28:25 (NKJV).

Contrite Heart:

“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart–These, O God, You will not despise” Psalm 51:17 (NKJV).

Idolatrous Heart:

“Harlotry, wine, and new wine enslave the heart. My people ask counsel from their wooden idols, And their staff informs them” Ezekiel 4:11–12 (NKJV).

Hardened Heart:

“Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness, Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years. Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways” Hebrews 3:8–10 (NKJV).

Wicked Heart:

“The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings” Jeremiah 17:9–10 (NKJV).

Foolish Heart:

“A fool has no delight in understanding, But in expressing his own heart” Proverbs 18:2 (NKJV).

Vengeful Heart:

“O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongs– O God, to whom vengeance belongs, shine forth! Rise up, O Judge of the earth; Render punishment to the proud. Lord, how long will the wicked, How long will the wicked triumph?” Psalm 94:1–3

Stubborn Heart:

“But My people would not heed My voice, And Israel would have none of Me. So I gave them over to their own stubborn heart, To walk in their own counsels” Psalms 81:11–12 (NKJV).

Broken Heart:

“The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit” Psalms 95:9–10 (NKJV).

Backslidden Heart:

“The backslider in heart will be filled with his own ways, But a good man will be satisfied from above” Proverbs 14:13 (NKJV).

The Characteristic or Nature of A Good Heart:

Clean Heart:

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me” Psalms 51:10–11 (NKJV).

Godfearing Heart:

“Oh, that they had such a heart in them that they would fear Me and always keep all My commandments, that it might be well with them and with their children forever!” Deuteronomy 5:29(NKJV).

Understanding Heart:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths” Proverbs 3:5–6 (NKJV).

Tender Heart:

“Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing” 1 Peter 3:8 (NKJV).

Merciful Heart:

“Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy” Matthew 5:7 (NKJV).

Merry Heart:

“A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken” Proverbs15:13 (NKJV).

Peaceful Heart:

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” John 14:27 (NKJV).

Pure Heart:

“Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God” Matthew 5:8 (NKJV).

Upright Heart:

“Now, I open my mouth; My tongue speaks in my mouth. My words come from my upright heart; My lips utter pure knowledge” Job 33:2–3 (NKJV).

Heart after God:

“But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you” 1 Samuel 13:14 (NKJV).

Besides these descriptions of heart attitude and character, the Bible indicates that the heart is capable of varying degrees of strength, commitment or intensity.
