Day 9: A Scientific Point of View - Part 1

From the Natural Heart Perspective:

The human heart is much more than an efficient pump that sustains life. The heart also is an access point to a source of wisdom and intelligence that we can call upon to live our lives with more balance, greater creativity and enhanced intuitive capacities. All of these are important for increasing personal effectiveness, improving health and relationships and achieving greater fulfillment. The heart has been considered the source of emotion, courage and wisdom for centuries. The heart generally functions for seventy to eighty years without maintenance or replacement, in which during this time, it beats around one hundred thousand times a day. The heart pumps two gallons of blood per minute, adding up to more than one hundred gallons per hour, through a vascular system that is long enough to wrap around the earth two times, over sixty thousand miles. “For many times, also, your own heart has known, That even you have cursed others. All this I have proved by wisdom. I said, “I will be wise”; But it was far from me. As for that which is far off and exceedingly deep, Who can find it out?” Ecclesiastes 7:22–24 (NKJV). The heart is like a nuclear power plant, in which generates five thousand times more energy than the brain. One of the main reasons why the heart has been called the “center” of our inner man “being.” It has its own nervous system that is called the “brain of the heart,” in which the “heart brain” has more than forty thousand nerve cells, the same number of cells contained in many of the brain’s subcortical centers. Research has proven and revealed that the heart brain can and does exhibit independently of the brain. The heart can even beat and pump without even being connected to the brain, however, when someone has a heart transplant, the surgeon has to sever the nerves in order to connect the brain to the heart. So, when they put the heart into the new body, they can’t reconnect the nerves. So, the surgeons had to restore the heartbeat, in which to reassure that the heartbeat does return. Although, there is no nerve connection to the brain.

The human heart as the source of love, wisdom, intuition, and positive emotions. These important functions of the heart were recognized by many ancient societies, including the Mesopotamians, the Babylonians, the Greeks, and the Chinese. And four thousand years ago the Egyptians believed the heart played a role in the spiritual dimension; upon death, they weighed the person’s heart to see how much good and evil it contained and placed the heart in special urns for burial, while the brain was discarded. The renowned French philosopher Blaise Pascal stated: “The heart has reasons that reason cannot know.” Such examples are endless and demonstrate the gap between the current scientific perspective of the heart and many ancient traditions. The natural heart is also able to feel, sense, comprehend and remember its role. Scientists have also observed that the heart sends emotional and intuitive signals to the brain and body that can help to govern our living or lives. The heart produces a strong substance called “atrtial natriuretic facto” (ANF) or “atrial peptide”, it is also known as “the balance hormone” that regulates many of our brain’s functioning; as well as our vital organs. Scientists are now finding that the balance hormone also motivates our behavior and decision–making. The heart’s power center directs and aligns many of our bodies’ systems and helps them to function in harmony with one another. “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward” Psalm 19:7–11 (NKJV). However, when the heart rhythms are in balance, just like a mighty waterfall, it can release a balance flow that resonates throughout our inner being.

The revelation does not stop there, because when the heart understands, then can the mind follow pursuit. “The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel: To know wisdom and instruction, To perceive the words of understanding, To receive the instruction of wisdom, Justice, judgment, and equity; To give prudence to the simple, To the young man knowledge and discretion” Proverbs 1:1–4 (NKJV). The heart is the center of our understanding, where concepts and balanced intelligences are introduced to every part of us. It can send signals and waves of rational, consideration instruction, which brings a balanced perspective that can strengthen our conscience. It is from the heart that indwelling sin springs in a person’s experience. Indeed, sin has invaded as an enemy and now possesses the very throne of God himself. It is true that there are many outward temptations that come upon us as human beings, but the problem we have comes essentially from within. It is from within that our fallen, darkened hearts gush forth evil and corrupt the whole of our lives, seriously damaging the lives of those to whom we are most connected. “But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man” Matthew 15:18–20 (NKJV). Nevertheless, the old heart does not have the spiritual power to override the brain’s constant activity. This is why even our human comprehension and conscience can be deceived. The heart is in a constant two–way dialogue with the brain. It takes a pure and purified heart to create pure motives and understanding from a consecrated conscience. God created the heart to govern the mind (brain). The heart is outside of the brain and consequently is not subject to brain processes. The heart must be converted to walk in the ways of God, which means that it “declares war” on the resident mind. When the heart and brain become unified (aligned), only then can you experience a natural flow, rhythm and peace within, regardless of what is going on in the natural world. When we choose to ignore our heart’s direction, the brain assumes control. It takes over while operating from a linear and logical perspective that is always ready to defend its own interests.
