A Servant's Heart Is God's Secret to Greatness - Part Two

However, we are called to be servants like Jesus, being a Jesus-style servant means to look to our Lord as our guide, our example and our strength; remembering to take the focus off of our needs and put others first. Jesus’ life was so full of beautiful examples of this: He healed the sick, washed the feet of his friends, took time out of his ministry to listen and hold children—and then He died on a cross for the sins of the world. "Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many" Matthew 20:26-28 (NKJV).

Jesus, the Son of God, the Most High King, Lord of Lords, never placed himself in a position above others. He led by serving, and He loved by serving. He washed feet. He fed thousands. He walked to visit and heal the sick and dead. He stopped to touch and heal a sick woman. He spent time with those no one else cared to spend time with. Jesus lived a life of humility. Jesus showed us that serving others and humility go hand in hand. "For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him" John 13:15-16 (NKJV ). Being a Jesus-style servant is not easy, having a servant’s heart means to not only put other’s needs ahead of our own, but to serve with the right motivation, which is to put God’s will first. Rewards, recognition or even gratitude cannot be the motivation to live out true servanthood the way Jesus did. Small acts can have huge impacts! How do you describe someone with a servant's heart?

Zeal Is Purpose On Fire:

The spirit of servanthood makes the difference between duty and desire, between doing what you have to do and doing what you want to do, Servanthood becomes a delight when you draw so close to the Lord that His desires become your desires. Only then will doing the will of God cease to be a duty. The load many be heavy at times, but it will always be lighter when you carry it with desire and delight. "If anyone serves Me, let himfollow Me; andwhere I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor" John 12:26 (NKJV).

The zeal and passion of humble servanthood is better caught than taught. However, you can't teach or model humility if it is not in your heart, it is a heart issue. One of the most important keys to success in God's kingdom is zeal, this means purpose on fire. Zeal is birthed from passion, and dpassion is also better caught and not tuaght. However, before a servant burn for God, they must catch the fire of His heart. This happens when you fall in love with the One who made you, the passion of love propels you into the whole new world of giving service and willing sacrifice. Life becomes an eternal race to outgive God ( a race you are destined to lose for eternity). "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord" 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NKJV).
