DAY 17: Authority Comes in the Name of Jesus – Part 2

It is a legal document if anyone with a sense of the law will examine its legality, from the point of the law in our legal system on earth today. That means Jesus literally gave us (believers in His name) the license to heal the sick, rescue those who are suffering and do the works of God on earth today. The enemy knows this, but he goes about lying to people about it. His plan is to prevent them from exercising the authority that they do have over him. Everything in the Kingdom belongs to us, therefore, all our ability to use the name of Jesus gives us access into all things to enjoy in His Kingdom. His name is the key that opens the door into the Kingdom for us. “And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all” Acts 3:16 (NKJV).

Names Identifies who we are and what we do, oftentimes in the scriptures we see God changing the names of people, who had been chosen and called by Him to fulfill His purposes. Abram was changed to Abraham. Jacob was changed to Israel. Simon received the name Peter; and Saul of Tarsus was named Paul. They all walked in the calling of God for their lives in accordance with the names that they received from God. Abraham was called the father of many nations: Israel – the Prince of God, Peter – the rock, Paul – the humble servant, and Jesus is Salvation or Savior. The new names identified them for what they all did. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV).

The name of Jesus and the anointing that was upon Him became an identifier for all believers in Antioch. The early disciples of Christ were recognized for doing what Jesus did. This is still the same today. The name – Christians, connects us with what Jesus did while on earth. We are all called to live and act like Jesus everywhere believers (we) go. We carry the name of Jesus with us everywhere we go, and in everything that we do. His anointing manifests through our lives whenever we put His name into use. “This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” Acts 4:11–12 (NKJV).

In biblical times names meant something. They spoke of a person’s character. We also see God giving people new names to match their new role and/or responsibility.

The name of Jesus has become the dividing line between people. For those who love Him, it stirs up adoration, wonder, and a holy awe. For others, however, it unleashes the hounds of hell with unsurpassed hated and venomous words. And this should not strike us as something new or something that we did not know. The name Jesus and who He is and what He has done splits people into two camps. Either they are for Jesus or against Him. In fact, Jesus doesn’t let anyone stay neutral. “Or how can one enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house. He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad” Matthew 12:29–30 (NKJV)

But let the name of Jesus out of our mouths in general conversation or in prayer we’ll have the politically correct gnashing their teeth. Our society is all about tolerance for just about everything that is evil under the sun and wrong, but when it comes to Jesus it has little if any tolerance whatsoever.

But this should not take us by surprise, Jesus actually spoke of this reality. The name of Jesus is able to do anything for us, if only we will believe in His name. There is no way someone else can override the will of another believer in the prayer of agreement. No matter what anyone may say in the prayer of agreement with another person, God can only and will only honor the desire of the person in need of the agreement itself. Unfortunately, many will use this to say that God never answered their prayers. No, God can never override the will or desire of any human. Get to know what you want from God, before asking believers to stand in agreement with you. “Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they” Hebrews 1:3–4 (NKJV).

There are many people like this whose hope and faith for healing is hanging on their circumstances in life. They will blame everyone else but themselves for their troubles in life. And as long as they harbor animosity in their hearts towards others, their faith will never work. They are often holding on to anger, lack of forgiveness, disappointment and lack of trust towards others. They cannot receive from God because of this, whatever God can do, the name of Jesus can do. He gave the church his name. “To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ” 1 Corinthians 1:2–3 (NKJV).

The name of Jesus removes every circumstance in our lives, from the moment that we believed in Him. Our lives as believers is never designed by God to be dependent on others, but on the name of Jesus alone. The door to exercising our authority in Christ hinges on the Word of God, as we understand that we are anchored and seated with God in Christ. By using the name of Jesus in prayer, the glory of God manifests through us for the world to see and believe. We have Jesus inside us. That is why the authority that He gave us scares the Devil every time we call on that name. Whenever the evil one sees you, he sees Jesus also.

No believer in Christ can ever exercise authority in the name of Jesus outside of the human body. Only the living can exercise authority in His name and not the dead. A lifeless body is of no use in exercising authority. The Devil knows this. That is why he seeks to possess any human body.

God does nothing on earth without a living human being. That is why we all have received names which identifies us out. God knows you by your name, just as the enemy knows you as well, and he trembles in fear of who you are in Christ Jesus. “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!” James 2:19 (NKJV).

All you need to do as a believer is to begin exercising the authority, that you possess to walk and reign in victory here on earth from now on. Amen! Jesus made it very clear that His Name is the key to all authority: “And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it” John 14:13–14 (NKJV).

The name of Jesus is a name above all others, in that at the end of times it will be the name of Jesus that all people, angelic beings, and demons will bow down to confessing that He is the Lord. We see Jesus being a name above in the name the Apostle John see’s upon Jesus’ robe when He returns. “Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war … He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS” Revelation 19:11, 16 (NKJV).
