“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God” Deuteronomy 28:1-2 (NKJV).
Throughout our lives, we find that just as the seasons change in nature, they change in our own lives too. These seasons can be marked by milestones such as new marriage, a new career, a new child, a move, or appearing more subtly as they turn the corner. New seasons come in every sphere of our lives: family, career, relationships, community, mental and/or physical health, or personal growth. The call to become sensitive to the winds of change is breathed throughout Scripture. God does not desire for us to dwell in our past hurts or pains, nor the former things that remind us consistently of our failures. “Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness, And rivers in the desert” Isaiah 43:19 (NKJV).
While detecting the signs of seasonal changes in the physical world is easy and obvious for us, knowing when we need to change something in our personal lives can be a little more difficult to assess. Rather, He wants us to be in tune with His Spirit in the present moment focusing on our destined purpose, with an awareness that He is actively moving in our lives and situations. Almost all of us have experienced significant changes over the last year due to the global pandemic. However, collectively the impact has been enormous, touching our cities, communities, churches, schools, and workplaces. We have had to adjust everything from where we go to who we see to how we work and how we carry out daily living. We are currently feeling shifting or stirring of the supernatural, for the Lord is truly up to something miraculously. ““Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” 2 Timothy 1:6-7 (NKJV).
For God delights and takes good pleasure while moving in the lives of His children to remind us of His hand in our lives. Also, another indicator that a new chapter is making its way towards you is that you may find your friend groups, relationships, or dynamics changing. Newness, change, and transition can either stimulate and energize us or worry and discourage us. We can choose to embrace change or run away from it, but either way, change is inevitable. This is not by your own hand or persuasion, but rather a natural progression towards something shifting. You may find that you don't feel as drawn to the people you once spent ample time with. We can experience seasonal changes on many different levels: physically, emotionally, relationally, financially, mentally, and spiritually. How can you know if God is preparing you for something brand new? This is because as you enter into a new chapter of your life, those who walked with you in the previous may not be coming in or may play a different role in your future. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” Jeremiah 29:11 (NKJV).
