Women and girls represent half of the world’s population and therefore also half of its potential. But, today gender inequality persists everywhere and stagnates social progress. Women continue to be underrepresented at all levels of political leadership. Inequalities faced by girls can begin at birth and follow them all their lives. The Old Testament praises several women who served in important leadership positions. In addition to being wives and mothers, Scripture recognizes their leadership position as being blessed by God. There is no mention that their gender should disqualify them. Throughout the Bible, women have played a key role in fulfilling God’s plan. They have also held positions of leadership and responsibility in spreading the Gospel. This month is a great opportunity to celebrate women in the Body of Christ because it's Women's History Month.
One beautiful representation of Jesus’ care for women is the famous story about a woman caught in adultery.
John 8:3-10: “The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery; and making her stand before all of them, they said to him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery. Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They said this to test him, so that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let anyone among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” And once again he bent down and wrote on the ground. When they heard it, they went away, one by one, beginning with the elders; and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. Jesus straightened up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, sir.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go your way, and from now on do not sin again.”
Jesus changed the attitude of the people towards the woman (anyone among you who is without sin).
Jesus changed the attitude of the woman towards herself (neither do I condemn you).
Jesus changed the attitude of the woman towards the people (go your way, do not sin again).
