Women of Excellence Rising Above the Norm Mother's Day Celebration Week - Day 1:

Throughout the Bible, we read about godly mothers who raised their children to love, honor, and serve God. Mothers like Jochebed, Elizabeth, and Mary raised sons who ministered to and led God’s people. Mothers in the Bible were committed, hardworking, and resourceful. They willingly did the work that was before them. A faithful mother acknowledges this vital responsibility she has been given: to help prepare her children to accomplish the purpose God has for their lives. Having this spiritual insight affects the way she raises her children. Even though we are able to – and definitely should – spoil our mothers on any day throughout the year, the denoted day gives us an excuse to express our utmost gratitude. Mothers and mother-figures are indispensable. They’re likely the first people we ever know when we enter the world, and they love and care for us as we grow up. “Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, like the days of the heavens above the earth” Deuteronomy 11:18-21 (NKJV).

Mothers have a God-given opportunity to imprint upon their children an indelible influence for God and his purposes. Being a mom takes hard work and patience. And raising a child who learns or thinks differently often means going the extra mile. Take a moment to celebrate the role of moms! Becoming a mother is more than the act of shoving aside your own personal desires once your child is born. Raising a human being who is completely dependent on you for food, warmth, love, comfort, and protection is no joke. Being a mother means being wrong a lot but wanting so badly to be right. It means making agonizing decisions when you don’t even know what the right decision is. Being a mother means you are bound and tied to the well-being of another soul until you take your last breath. This Mother’s Day and every day, you can find comfort in God’s promise to be with you as you care for your family. He offers you strength and encouragement through his Word and the Holy Spirit. No matter if she's called Mom, Mommy, Aunt, Grandma or anything else, it's undeniable how much our mood is lifted when she's around. And it's not just us waxing poetic because it's Mother's Day: Science even suggests that maternal figures improve our wellbeing.

“Mother's Love”

A Mother's love is something that no one can explain, It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain, It is endless and unselfish and enduring come what may For nothing can destroy it or take that love away...

It is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking, And it never fails or falters even though the heart is breaking... It believes beyond believing when the world around condemns, And it glows with all the beauty of the rarest, brightest gems...

It is far beyond defining, it defies all explanation, and it still remains a secret like the mysteries of creation... A many-splendored miracle man cannot understand And another wondrous evidence of God's tender guiding hand.

A good mother loves her children and works hard to provide for their needs. A faithful mother does the same, not just out of love for them, but out of love and reverence for the Lord. She is like the virtuous woman described in the book of Proverbs. This is how most people would describe a good mother, whether they are Christian or not. While a “good mother” can be a wonderful blessing to her family, something more is needed, especially in the Christian home—a “faithful mother.” A faithful mother does all the things a good mother does, but she recognizes two important truths: children are from the Lord and children are for the Lord. “he heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil All the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax, And willingly works with her hands” Proverbs 31:11-13(NKJV).

The relationship between Bathsheba and King David did not begin well. Despite being wronged and mistreated by him, Bathsheba later became David's loyal wife and protective mother of King Solomon, the wisest ruler of Israel. Bathsheba’s name flashes like a beacon the good news that Jesus came to pay for someone else’s sin. Out of Bathsheba’s pain, she became the mother of Solomon, Shelomoh meaning peaceful. Out of Bathsheba’s mess, God would bring the Messiah. Bathsheba is one of only five women listed in the ancestry of Jesus Christ. She is in Jesus’ lineage means that God can redeem all things. “And Jesse begot David the king. David the king begot Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah” Matthew 1:6 (NKJV).

Rebekah was another matriarch of Israel. Like her mother-in-law Sarah, she was barren. When her husband Isaac prayed for her, God opened Rebekah's womb and she conceived and gave birth to twin sons, Esau and Jacob. "Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah as wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padan Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian. Now Isaac pleaded with the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived. But the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If all is well, why am I like this?” So she went to inquire of the Lord" Genesis 25:20-22 (NKJV).
