Women of Excellence Rising Above the Norm Mother's Day Celebration Week - Day 5:

Mother’s Day can bring a mix of emotions for many women. There are those anticipating the birth of their first child, step-moms wondering what their place is, those who have lost their mother and are faced with grieving on Mother’s Day, there are moms who encounter feelings of hurt because their children have turned from God, and those overwhelmed with pain from the loss of a child. To keep a pure heart, a God-fearing mother is mindful of everything that influences her thoughts, actions, and emotions. She recognizes that what goes in eventually comes out. When the Holy Spirit convicts her of a sin, thought, material possession, or habit that is causing her to compromise her beliefs and values, she surrenders them to God without delay. She realizes that what she consumes eventually affects herself and her motherhood journey. She focuses her efforts on pursuing holiness in her thoughts, words, and deeds. She chooses to be content in whatever circumstances God has given her — just as Paul did in prison (Philippians 4:11-12). Her contentment is not conditional, but a conscious commitment. She avoids a greedy and covetous spirit, knowing full well that it will erode her desire for godliness. A a mother’s love for her son is not only important, but it can also be a compelling force in the lives of both the mother and the son. May we all honor and cherish the mothers in our lives and seek to emulate their love and devotion. “Motherhood is not a hobby, it is a calling. It is not something to do if you can squeeze the time in, it is what God gave you time for.” ~ Rachel JanKovic

Mothers have a way with words. It allows them to teach and guide with love and patience. A mother’s love is a blessing in the life of her child. Motherhood is a calling from God and we should embrace this ministry God has given us. We need to pray that God will give us the wisdom to know what we may need to sacrifice in order to best help our children. Teach your children all the wisdom and lessons you learn in life. Unfortunately, in our society many mothers do reflect the loving, caring, and providing nature of God better than fathers who have often failed to live up to their God-given responsibilities. Many people would testify that they have trouble with the concept of God as Father because they associate Him with their absent or abusive human fathers. The solution is to get to know God the Father as He really is, not to substitute Him with God the Mother. Your mother’s voice is the first voice you ever hear – even before you are born. Even as a newborn baby, you know your Mother and prefer her above anyone else. Cherish your mother and be sure she knows you appreciate everything she does for you. The days are short, love your mother before time is gone. If your mother has already gone on before you, take some time to recall memories of her.

“To be a mother is by no means second class. Men may have the authority in the home, but the women have the influence. The mother, more than the father, is the one who molds and shapes those little lives from day one.” ~ John MacArthur

“The impression that a praying mother leaves upon her children is life-long. Perhaps when you are dead and gone your prayer will be answered.”~ D.L. Moody

Having a mother who sought to raise her children to know and love Jesus was one of the very best gifts I’ve been given. In fact, there is a legacy of women in many family genealogy who prayed their families through life’s ups and downs. Having a mother who sought to raise her children to know and love Jesus was one of the very best gifts I’ve been given. In fact, there is a legacy of women in my genealogy who prayed their families through life’s ups and downs. God has given mothers the role – to nurture, to enjoy and to relish in the relationships forged through the family. The love of a mother is like no other- so they say. When we read Scripture, we can see that there is something inherently special and important about the mother-child relationship. One of the most important things a mother can impart to her children is faith. Children need to see this faith in action in the lives of their parents. While Timothy’s father had very little influence on his son, Timothy was fortunate to have both a faithful mother and grandmother whose lives were characterized by a genuine faith. This faith was passed on to Timothy through their godly behavior. Paul reminded Timothy of this blessing. "Her husband is known in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them, And supplies sashes for the merchants. Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come" Proverbs 31:23-25 (NKJV).
