Motherhood is a divine, sacred calling. No service compares to the service that a mother gives to her children. Biology is the least of what makes someone a mother. The day is an event to honor the contribution of mothers, acknowledge the efforts of maternal bonds and the role of mothers in our society. This will be a great way to demonstrate and tell her how much she's adored and what she means to others. God gave us mothers, because they are priceless and the need to appreciate their efforts should be redeemable every day. All traditions, however, do share characteristics and ultimately honour mothers and women who have brought peace and improvement to the world. Despite consumerism gradually overpowering authenticity, the day will forever serve as a reminder of what mothers do for us. A mother is someone who wants her child to grow up to be a happy, healthy, successful adult. A mother pays attention to her child's particular nature and responds to the specific needs of each child. A mother accepts her child for who she or he is, and forgives her child for their mistakes, big or small. "For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well" Psalm 139:13-14 (NKJV).
She understands that she must draw wisdom and guidance from the Bible, a Christian mother will partner with God and her husband to build a solid foundation for their home. As one, she and her husband lead their family in worship, prayer, and the reading of the Bible. They engage their children in discussions about challenges and world events in light of Scripture. Every morning, she asked the Holy Spirit to reveal the various ways of creating a Christ-centered home. What makes a good mother? She loves her children and provides for their needs: physically, mentally, and emotionally. She works hard, unselfishly giving of herself for her children’s welfare. A good mother protects her children from harm, watching over them and providing a warm, safe atmosphere in which to nurture them. She prepares her children for life, teaching and training them, instilling in them values and morals, and modeling these values in her own life. Mothers are, well … motherly. They’re effortlessly patient, affectionate and nurturing, and it all comes naturally from a place deep inside. Right? At least that’s the world’s perception of what it takes to be a mother—a good one anyway. But it’s not always true. Not every mother feels like a natural mom. Some of us weren’t born with the same deep maternal instincts that help us cherish every moment and never doubt our abilities as parents. Not every woman who becomes a mother feels like she was absolutely destined to be one. Some moms have to work a bit harder to embrace motherhood and all of its constant demands. "Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies." Proverbs 31:10 (NKJV).
Motherhood can feel like participating in a race without a finish line: slow at times, frantic at others, exhausting and exhilarating all at once. No matter your circumstances, Heavenly Father promises blessings as you participate in this essential work of salvation. In a world of perfectionism, we as mothers tend to put motherhood in the same category. If you’ve been a mother for more than a couple of years, you learn there is no perfect way to do anything in motherhood; there are only best practices to get the most ideal outcome. This Mother’s Day, as you treasure each heartfelt gift from your children, you can find grace and refreshment for your soul in Scripture. Use these five simple, practical ways to reintegrate Bible moments into your family routine as you give your children the gift of growing up with God’s Word.
“A mother is the truest friend we have. When trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.” ~ Anonymous
“A mother is one to whom you hurry when you are troubled.” ~ Emily Dickinson “No society will long survive without mothers who care for their young and provide that nurturing care so essential for their normal development.” ~ Ezra Taft Benson
